The objective of the course is to provide detailed instruction in the
emissions, design, performance, theory, and regulations associated with
gas turbine combustion systems. The syllabus includes a number of lectures
on the fundamentals of combustion, but the main areas of instruction
are in combustor emissions and design, and in the solution of practical
problems that arise in the course of advanced combustor development.
Special attention is paid to methods of minimizing pollutant emissions,
regulatory forces, and the experimental and computational methods used
to delineate combustor behavior. Evening workshops are available, at
the discretion of the student, in computational analyses of combustor
The course is intended to meet the requirements of people already engaged in research or the design and development of gas turbine combustion systems for aircraft, industrial, marine, utility, or automotive applications. However, it could also be of considerable benefit to new entrants in the field of gas turbine combustion.
While no precise academic standards are laid down, it is assumed that the registrant holds a university degree or equivalent qualifications in science and engineering.
