Research Projects

Research at the UCICL is focused on the conflict between energy generation and environmental impacts. Researchers apply laser diagnostics and computer modeling to practical combustion problems. The goal of each project is inevitably related to reducing pollutant emissions from combustion devices while maintaining or improving combustor performance, including overall system efficiency.

The Laboratory addresses continuous combustion systems such as aeroengine gas turbines, furnaces and boilers, stationary gas turbines, and rockets. Representative models of practical systems and their components form the bulk of the experimental hardware, and carefully designed facilities provide realistic operating conditions including practical firing temperatures and pressures.
