The UCI Combustion Laboratory presented papers at this year's 27th Annual Institute for Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ILASS)-Americas conference in Raleigh North Carolina and the 9th U.S. National Combustion Meeting in Cincinnati, OH.  Both conferences were held from May 17-20.

At the ILASS conference, Scott Leask, a visiting undergraduate researcher from University of Glasgow, presented his research on the Study of Sprays Generated by Impinging Liquid Jets from Unlike Doublet Injectors. Professor Vincent McDonell presented research conducted by UCICL student Adam Silver as part of his Master's degree, Contrasting Atomization Performance of Biodiesel-Ethanol Mixtures in Air-Blast and Pressure Swirl Nozzles. In addition, Professor McDonell provided an overview presentation of Liquid Jet in Crossflow and participated in a subsequent panel discussion on the status of experiments and modeling tools for future efforts to address knowledge gaps surrounding this common liquid injection technique.

The 9th U.S. National Combustion Meeting included presentations from UCICL Master's student Dimas Avila who presented his research on Low Cost Gas Composition Analyzer for Fuel Flexible Burners, Ph.D. Candidate Alireza Kalantari presented on Analytical and Experimental Analysis of Flashback Propensity at Elevated Pressures and Temperatures, and Ph.D. Candidate Andres Colorado presented on An Experiential Study of this Stability Limits of a Surface-Stabilized Combustion Burner Using Biogas and Natural Gas. Andres Colorado also received honorable mention for his image submitted to the "Art in Combustion" contest. His photo shows a wide range of visible spectrum colors observed during fuel flexibility experiments at the UCI Combustion Laboratory.
